Practical guide / SIRE

SIRE: report foreign guests with a clear routine.

Migración Colombia's reporting system is about people and movements. Prepare the correct account, verify each guest and close the loop at departure.

Does this apply to me?

SIRE is the Sistema de Información para el Reporte de Extranjeros. Accommodation is one reportable relationship with foreign nationals. A Colombian booking contact does not tell you the nationality of everyone staying. [1]

For hotels and similar lodging, the official FAQ specifies entry and exit reports on the day each occurs. Its separate property-handover category has a different clock. Confirm your activity with Migración Colombia rather than choosing a category because it gives more time. [1]

Before you start

  • The establishment's identity and details, plus the person responsible for reporting.
  • An activated SIRE account and access to its registered email.
  • A way to verify the guest's valid identification against current Migración Colombia rules. [2]
  • A named person to review arrivals, departures and rejected reports each day.

Step by step

  1. 01

Register the reporting person or entity

Use the official SIRE portal's registration option. Complete the requested details and documents for the actual reporter. Confirm activation before the first foreign guest arrives. [1] [2]

  2. 02

Match the account to the establishment

Before submitting, check that you selected the correct associated entity and establishment. Keep the establishment code with your internal setup notes; never paste passwords into a shared checklist.

  3. 03

    Verify everyone who is staying

Compare names and identification with the guest's documents. Resolve a missing or unsupported document through the authority's guidance instead of substituting a different document type. [2]

  4. 04

    Record the real arrival

Build an arrival review into check-in. Use the actual event and correct guest information. The reservation's planned arrival alone is a poor basis for deciding that a report is complete.

  5. 05

    Submit and inspect the outcome

Use the official portal or your confirmed reporting route. Check the authority's result. A locally prepared file, queue entry or software checkmark is not the same as a received report.

  6. 06

Close the departure and retain proof

Review the real departure separately. Keep a reference to the submission outcome and any correction with the stay so the next shift can tell what remains open.

Dates and reporting rhythm

These are different activities in Migración Colombia's published FAQ. The distinction matters more than the booking channel. [1]

Dates and reporting rhythm
SituationWhat to do
Hotels, hostels and similar accommodationReport the foreign guest's entry and exit on the same day as the event.
Property-handover activity listed in the FAQThe FAQ specifies five business days after formal handover. Ask Migración Colombia whether this is your activity; it is not a blanket extension for tourist stays.
Connectivity exceptionResolution 2357 provides a formal process with Migración Colombia for establishments unable to report online. A portal error alone does not establish an exemption. [2]

Common mistakes to avoid

Reporting only the person who booked

Review the people staying, not just the reservation holder.

Treating every activity as a 24-hour deadline

Use the authority's activity-specific rule and confirm classification.

Resending before checking the result

Inspect the first submission and keep a correction trail to avoid unexplained duplicates.

Your working checklist

Use this as a quick review while you read. Checkmarks stay on this page only; they are not a filing record.

Questions hosts ask

Does a TRA record replace SIRE?

No. TRA and SIRE serve different authorities and scopes. Keep a separate check for each applicable report.

Can I let my PMS or reporting provider handle it?

Agree the responsible reporting route, confirm that it is active for your establishment and check the received result. The host's review should not end at a provider's connected label.

What if I discover a missing or wrong report?

Record the facts and original reference, then use Migración Colombia's current correction or support process. Do not change actual movement dates just to make the report appear on time.
